So from day one of MagSafe being introduced to the iPhone, the idea of having a small battery pack that connects to the phone on the go, was one that I was very excited about. Apple introduced the MagSafe battery, and it does a very good job but it’s a bit pricey. When Anker introduced their chargers in their MagGo collection I got pretty excited. Anker makes wonderful products, and they tend to be a bit cheaper than that of Apple and its competitors. Now don’t give me wrong I do really like Apple’s MagSafe battery pack, but is it the best option? So here’s a little Anker 633 MagGo review to see if it is the better option for you.
What Is The Anker 633 MagGo
The Anker 633 is Anker’s 3rd generation of their MagGo batteries, or maybe call it version 2.5, see image below.
This battery will provide you 10,000 mAh of wireless (or wired) charging. The USB-C port will provide 20 W of power enough for just about any phone on the market. It includes a kickstand in the back, which allows you to charge the phone while in portrait or landscape mode, and also have the charger plugged into a USB-C so you could treat it as a dock, if you wanted to. With the 10,000 mAh you can nearly charge an iPhone 14 Pro 2 full times.
What Do I like About The Anker 633 MagGo
So part of the reason I wanted to do this Anker 633 MagGo review is the fact that I like this product (a lot). It is a noticeably larger battery pack compared to that of the Apple MagSafe battery and some of the competitors. That said it provides almost twice the charge.
I really like the construction of the product. The battery feels solid in your hand, and the kickstand is made of metal, so it also feels solid and reliable.
After trying a few of the different competitors one thing that I really appreciate about Anker is that the magnets are rather strong, and the side that connects to the phone is made of a suddenly grippy texture so it’s not going to slide off.
What Don’t I Like About The Anker 633 MagGo
What don’t I like about this product? Well, it is big. Because of its size, it makes keeping it connected to your phone in your pocket a bit of a struggle so I tend to have this be something that I’m holding or I sat down on a table while I’m charging my phone.
This one might seem a bit silly but it is an investment at nearly $80. However, even at $80, it’s still cheaper than the Apple MagSafe battery, which has a significantly smaller charge capacity.
This doesn’t happen all the time but I did run into a few occasions when it got kind of warm. I was never worried about it overheating or doing any damage to my phone but it’s definitely something that I noticed.
A final thing that I wish any of the non-Apple products could do is communicate better with the phone. One of the biggest advantages that the Apple MagSafe battery has is the fact that it communicates with the phone, so well if you want more information on that I’ve done a review on that specific product. - Momax Magnetic Charger – looks cool, depending on your phone case it may “slide” around a bit.
Final Thoughts & Cost
This Anker 633 MagGo is a progression of what has been a great collection of MagSafe-compatible batteries from Anker. Right now the 633 is my go-to MagSafe battery, I hope they continue to get better as they evolve, so I’m sure in time I’ll have a new favorite one. If the size is too much, go with the Anker 622, you still get a kickstand, and good charging, but a more manageable size. If you want something “thin” get the Anker 621.
