Springfree Trampoline

The Springfree Trampoline Review

Do you know how parents like to live vicariously through their kids? Well, my wife and I are absolutely no different. We both wanted a trampoline when we were kids, so after seeing our daughter go crazy on them in her gymnastics class we decided she needed one. It was absolutely only for her and not at all for us, he says sarcastically. So take a few minutes and read my SpringFree Trampoline review.

Why Springfree?

As I do with pretty much everything I buy, once my wife and I decided we wanted to get her one, the research started. The reason my wife and I didn’t have them growing up is our families often told us just how unsafe they are, so I had three things I was really focused on. First I wanted something very safe, the second I wanted something that wasn’t a big deal in our small backyard, and third I wanted it to last a long time through regular use and our lovely Colorado weather.

With that all being said in my search I came across a brand I had never heard of, Springfree Trampoline. Once I did some digging and learned about these trampolines who made them and why I was sold. The top reason for these trampolines being a thing…SAFETY! Jump over at some point and take a look at their story as a company.

So we don’t have a large backyard in our current home, but with these Springfree trampolines and how they are built, the footprint is smaller because you don’t have the addition of the springs around the trampoline.

We ended up getting the Medium Oval Trampoline. As you can see in the shots above, it’s big but not massive. Ok ok… it’s called Springfree and has these odd-looking rods, how is it for jumping?

So these rods are pretty awesome, they are from what I can tell hollowed rods made of a carbon fiber type structure. The jump on this trampoline is fantastic, listen I’m a big guy and I can get going on this trampoline. One thing I have noticed is it seems to have a softer compression when you come down. For someone with a history of a bad left knee, I appreciate this. But let’s be honest, I’m not the target demographic for this (at least not in my household). My daughter, all 30+ pounds loves it and can also get some rather good jumping and bouncing going.

Setting It Up

I will start this section by saying, the setup was rough. The instructions were great and they use an app called BILT and having it for the instructions was rather nice. I’ve since used it for a few other projects and product instructions.

Why was the setup so rough? Well, they say it can be put together by two handy parents. This statement is true, but at times it was rather difficult. This trampoline needs tension (as they all do), but with these rods, it quickly becomes difficult to fight them and get them installed. I’d say the total time for setup was around three hours, I was able to do everything but attach the rods without help. Having the extra set of hands to get leverage while attaching the rods was very helpful.

So yes, you can put it together with two adults but just be ready for some tough sections, but you can do it!

What I Like

Honestly, it’s all good. The family and friends are enjoying the trampoline, we’ve had it outside since November 2020 and have seen both the cold and hot weather in Colorado and still looks like new.

The other thing and I’ll say it again, is it’s super safe. Here are a few reasons why this trampoline comes as such a safe option.

  • The frame is below the jumping surface, so it can’t be contacted while jumping.
  • The springs have been replaced with flexible rods, which are also below the jumping surface.
  • The high-quality enclosure is held up with flexible rods, which also can’t be contacted by the jumper.

Once your child is in your Springfree Trampoline, there are no parts of the trampoline that can harm them….that doesn’t mean the child won’t hurt themselves.

What I Don’t Like

So far there haven’t been many. First and I’ve already mentioned this, setup was a bit more difficult compared to a traditional trampoline. The only other thing I would consider “bad” is clean up. When we get a good windstorm or it’s just been a few weeks, the top gets covered in debris. Because the trampoline is so well self-contained, getting the debris out isn’t as easy as just brushing it with your hands to the edge and having it fall between the springs, I end up getting a hand broom out.

My Final Thoughts

The Springfree Trampoline isn’t the quick $100 purchase off of Craigslist. It comes with a price tag that for many may sound high. I saw this high price as coming with something safe and well-made, an investment.

With the safety measures, build quality, and physical footprint of this trampoline we are beyond happy. Every day that the weather permits, my daughter is out there jumping.

Overall, if you are in the market for a trampoline I say give them a look. They now offer customization which I think I may have taken advantage of if it were an option a year ago.

You may ask yourself, but wait…” how is this Tech From Dad?” Well, there is an option to add sensors and add some gamification to the trampoline with the Tgoma platform. I have yet to add it to the trampoline and have plans to add it in the coming months. I’ve held off because my daughter just enjoys jumping and I don’t want to muddy that up with tech. Expect a review of the Tgoma system at a later date.
